Opening a dialogue with a stranger can be hard, especially if they seem like exactly what you’re looking for in a partner or a new best friend. Nerves!

Don’t worry, there’s an easy way to push past small talk and get closer to their heart.

“What are you passionate about?”

Those five words can help you filter out people who are not worth your time. If someone cannot articulate what they are passionate about, chances are, they are also sketchy on what they want in life. That is not the type of person you want to seriously date or spend time with.

Alternatively, if someone is passionate about things you are not a fan of, it’s better to find that out now.

Push past small talk

Think about how many times have you received a message like this: “Hey, what’s up?” or “Hi, how’s it going?” Now think about how many times you’ve ignored messages like that. (Hint: So many times) Asking someone about their passions elevates the conversation and gives that person a second chance to impress you.
